1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: Action/Evaluation Plan
Reflection:
During the ITEC 7410 class, I was able to develop an Action/Evaluation plan for North LaFayette Elementary. This plan was developed for the teachers and staff at NLE. When implemented, these goals will help the teachers become more efficient in technology integration. These teachers will prove their knowledge by including the activities that they are completing in their lesson plans, TKES evaluations, and surveys.
Standard 1.4, Diffusion of Innovations and Change, occurs when candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. This plan was developed by a team of staff members (two fifth grade teachers, an academic coach, and a vice principal). We chose the items for this plan by using information that we already had, and planning for the future. For example, by using lesson plans, TKES evaluations, and other sources, teachers can demonstrate their integration of technology in their lessons. Teachers will also focus on implementing the new programs that NLE has purchased for student instruction. NLE purchased Study Island and IXL for instructional purposes. Also during this school year, teachers will participate in a problem-based learning environment that would help them to solve problems, voice ideas, collaborate, and make choices on how their integration in the classroom will occur. Teachers and stakeholders on the technology team will be able to work together to create a school vision/plan for technology use. This technology team will also research for and recommend three initiatives (technology focused) for this school year. One of these suggested initiatives would be the “Tech Open House Nights” which include the school staying open one night per week later so that parents can come with students and use technology devices in the library to research or complete assignments that they may not be able to complete at home due to wifi access.
I learned a lot from completing this assignment. I had to research to look at different plans so that I could decide what would be good for my school specifically. I learned the importance of collaboration. Also, planning these goals is important to the future technology integration at North LaFayette. If I could go back and do this assignment again, the only thing that I would change is that I would go ahead and add in the initiatives that the team has agreed on earlier. If this happens, then teachers can go ahead and get started on implementation without waiting around for the decisions to be made.
Some of the goals that were mentioned on this plan were covered in professional learning community (PLC) meetings for teachers this year. Other goals have been covered in faculty meetings. Teachers are preparing to be active members with technology integration this school year. The impact of this assignment will be assessed when the teachers are assessed on how they have performed on these different goals throughout the year. If teachers continue to implement these new strategies, it will not only make them more proficient in technology usage, but it will also improve their teaching strategies and show them a variety of ways to use these goals in their everyday teaching methods.
