Artifact: CURRENT REALITY
Reflection:
This artifact was completed in the ITEC 8500 course of the Instructional Technology Specialist’s program at Kennesaw State University. Throughout this artifact, I was able to look at our school’s vision, which we do not currently have, a needs assessment that teachers filled out, professional learning opportunities that need to occur based on that assessment, funding and incentives, diversity, collaboration, and evaluation. I was also able to grade my school using the GSAPS based on professional learning standards. I used the topics above to decide where my school is currently performing, and where we need to be working toward going in the future with technology integration.
Standard 5.3, Program Evaluation, allows candidates to design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. Through this artifact, I was able to design and implement an evaluation for teachers to complete. The teachers were able to give their opinions on the overall effectiveness of the professional learning that we have had, and the things we need in order to deepen teacher content knowledge in order to increase student learning. They were able to express their honest opinions about the technology that we have, how they are implementing it in their classroom, and how we can do this better at our school.
I was able to learn a lot about our teachers’ feelings about the technology that we have at NLE. They want to use it, and they feel like it would be beneficial, but a lot of them are struggling with the professional learning necessary to make this implementation successful. If I had to change anything about this artifact, I would have completed it sooner. This was a great resource to be able to talk to our technology team, administration, and stakeholders about. They were all interested to hear how the teachers were feeling about this area of weakness.
This artifact was a great way to get information from teachers about the professional learning opportunities that they have had, and which ones they would like to have in the future. They were very honest on the needs assessment, and I had a lot of data to be able to analyze to see what would be necessary for the success of this implementation in the future. The impact of this artifact could be measured by a post survey of the teams and how they understood the information that was presented, as well as a post teacher survey to those who took the needs assessment and saw a change in professional learning based on that assessment.
