Reflection:
This artifact was created at the beginning of the year to showcase our information about the block classes at North LaFayette Elementary. At North LaFayette, we have three different block classes. We have Art, PE, and Literacy Lab classes. We try to create a quarterly newsletter to communicate information with parents, students, peers, and the larger community. Inside this newsletter we have the opportunity to discuss what is currently happening in our classrooms, wish lists, and upcoming events. This keeps parents informed and it also allows us to get the students and parents excited about what is happening at NLE.
Standard 3.7, Communication and Collaboration, allows candidates to utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. Through using these newsletters each quarter, I am able to communicate with parents, students, peers, and the larger community using digital tools. I collaborate with the other block teachers to create this newsletter each quarter. The other block teachers and myself are constantly looking for ways to communicate what is happening in our classes. This year, we have been using our NLE facebook page a lot as well. We take pictures of things we are doing in class, and showcase students who are going above and beyond in our classes.
Through creating these artifacts each quarter, I have learned the importance of keeping our parents involved with their student’s education, even the block classes that they have each week. These newsletters take planning, organization, and collaboration between the block teachers. To improve the quality of these newsletters, I would like to implement a template that we can use each time. It would keep it more organized, and I feel like parents would know exactly where to look for certain information.
This artifact impacts school improvement by allowing parents to be consistently involved and aware of their child’s education. This communication helps improve the moral of parents about the importance of block classes. The impact of this artifact can be assessed by the number of individuals by which the information is communicated using digital tools and resources.
