Artifact: FIELD EXPERIENCE LOG
Reflection:
This artifact was completed in the ITEC 7460 course of the Instructional Technology Specialist’s program at Kennesaw State University. This was a structured log, which focused on a lesson plan that I had to create. I created this lesson plan for students in grades 3-5 to be completed in PE and Literacy Lab. This is the first time that I have worked collaboratively with another block class in order to complete a project like this. Students were able to group up, choose a game, research this game, create a Powerpoint presentation for their research, and then use graphics that they have taken (pictures/videos) to create an Adobe Spark presentation about that game. We also set up a Weebly page for students to be able to post their presentations for others to see. All of my field experiences can be found on the Weebly Field Experiences page.
Standard 6.3, Field Experiences, allows candidates to engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. Throughout this program, I have been able to engage in many different appropriate field experiences in order to synthesize and apply the content that I am learning. I have also been taught a lot in these courses to increase my professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions for each standard.
I have been able to learn a lot through the field experience opportunities that I have been given. I learned a lot about my students in this project. The older students loved creating these videos for the younger students to learn these games. They want to be leaders and mentor others, they just have to be provided the opportunities to do so. If I had to change anything about this field experience, I would have used Google Slides instead of Powerpoint. Our school uses a lot of the Google apps, and Google Slides is a great program because it saves things instantly, and students do not lose work if a technical problem occurs.
Not only have I learned new ways to teach, I have also been able to teach other teachers new innovative ways to teach their students. The great thing about teachers is that most are always looking for new ideas and techniques, and they are eager to learn new skills. This program provided many opportunities for growth for our teachers. I had many assignments in which I had to teach others skills that I had been learning. A lot of our teachers had no clue what Adobe Spark was, or how to use it, and now they are implementing these tools into their classrooms. The impact of this artifact can be assessed by allowing the students to fill out a survey, which could display their opinion on how the project was completed.
