Artifact: DATA OVERVIEW
Reflection:
During the ITEC 7305 class, I developed a data overview for fifth grade at North LaFayette Elementary in Walker County, Georgia. This data overview focuses on the demographic and enrollment of North LaFayette in the last three school years, the fifth grade ELA Georgia Milestones scores, acknowledge the strengths in the data, identify weaknesses in the data presented, and provide the data to members of the NLE leadership team for data review and decision making. I was able to collaborate with my administration and academic coach for the data to complete this assignment.
Standard 2.8, Data Analysis, is developed when candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. Throughout this project I was able to use digital tools and resources to collect and analyze the data. I created a Google Sheets presentation to record the data. I was then able to interpret results of this information and communicate the findings to our Leadership team by using a Google Slides presentation. Based on the data, we decided that there is a weakness in writing, so I was able to suggest that we offer PLC sessions on how to integrate writing into all content areas. We are using this data to be able to lead teachers in a direction to improve their instructional practice to maximize student learning in order to increase our testing scores.
I learned a lot when completing this artifact. For this artifact to lead to successful learning, we will need to continue to use data each year to guide our instructional practices. Teachers will need to continue to make changes in their instruction to make it more effective for their students. If I had to change anything about this artifact, I would change the fact that I created it on my own. I would like to show more teachers how to evaluate the data that is presented, and create presentations like this on their own. We need more teachers to understand not just how to present the data, but what the data actually means in relation to our students.
The work that went into creating this artifact has had a positive impact on the Leadership team. All of the teachers greatly appreciated this contribution to our data collection. The impact of this artifact can be assessed by teacher surveys, when asked of the changes being made in their instructional practices. This survey would be based on the information that this Data Overview presented.
