Artifact: MULTIMEDIA DESIGN PROJECT
Reflection:
This artifact was completed in the ITEC 7445 class in the Instructional Technology program at Kennesaw State University. This artifact was created for fifth grade students to be used in a social studies unit. These students would choose a topic based on the fifth grade standards, research that topic, use technology to present information about it, and then this information will be used to create a community-based project. I created this project so that students could be more active in our historical community. I gave students a choice of topics, and allowed them to use their own creativity to create the project exactly how they wanted to.
3.3, Online & Blended Learning, is developed for candidates to develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. Throughout this project I was able to develop a model for students to use for a visual representation of what needed to be completed. I was also able to model and facilitate how to use the programs to complete this project. I chose this project because I was able to show students how to extend their learning and have opportunities to showcase their learning in our community.
I learned a lot about my students when completing this activity. I learned about their motivation and engagement levels, and if I reach those levels with them then the possibilities are endless. This project was a good blended project because it is something that students could work on at home with internet access. I just need to do a better job of choosing activities that reach my students on a higher level. If I had to change one thing, I would change the groups some. I had trouble with my EBD (Emotional Behavior Disorder) students being in different groups because their paraprofessional had to go back and forth between groups to offer support. They also become easily frustrated because the other students wanted to take charge and assign roles, and they did not want to be told what they had to do.
All of the resources for this project were great. Some teachers were not familiar with Glogster, and I loved showing them what all it can do. I was able to present some of the projects to our teachers and staff for them to judge the winners. The impact of these presentations can be assessed by using the rubric that is included with the project.
