Artifact: TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP
Reflection:
This artifact was completed in the ITEC 7460 class in the Instructional Technology Education Specialist’s program from Kennesaw State University. This workshop allowed me to use a writing focus that our school has, in order to create an instructional technology based training. Throughout this workshop, I was able to help teachers learn about three technology programs that they could use to help with writing lessons. My group and I taught this lesson on Pobble365, Popplet, and StoryJumper. These programs will make things easier and more engaging for students.
Standard 5.2, Professional Learning, allows candidates to develop and implement technology-based professional learning that aligns to state and national professional learning standards, integrates technology to support face-to-face and online components, models principles of adult learning, and promotes best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment. This workshop was focused on national and state professional learning standards for writing. I was able to integrate technology in a face-to-face training, and walk these teachers through online components of the three programs. This workshop was a great way to model principles of adult learning. It also showed the teachers how to use these programs in teaching, learning, and assessment when working toward their student academic success.
I was able to learn a lot about the interest of teachers when it comes to technology. At our school training, we had about seven people show up. When we presented this information at the county training, we had about thirty people come. We were excited to present this information to others! If I needed to change something about this training, I would have had the training for NLE teachers more than one day so that they had an opportunity to come learn about these great programs. I know that life sometimes gets in the way, but it is something that I think most teachers could benefit from.
This training was a great professional learning opportunity for teachers in our school and county. It gave them options for programs that they could use, or the option to use all of these programs. We were able to show them how to begin with all of these programs, and walk them through how we would use this in the different grade levels. The impact of this artifact could be assessed by looking at the post survey data that was collected, and drawing conclusions based on feedback. Teachers provided comments about the trainings, and they were very positive. I am glad that our trainings were able to open teachers eyes about all of the free programs that can be used, and would be beneficial in classrooms today.
