This semester has been a whirlwind. I feel like I just got started, and yet we are already finishing up. This entire program has been eye opening when it comes to technology use in our county. I always felt like we were way ahead of everyone else because of the technology devices that we have. However, what good is the technology devices if you do not know how to properly use them? I have really enjoyed focusing on the different Web 2.0 tools this semester, and finding which ones would be beneficial for the teachers in our school. My colleagues and I have started a list of all of these tools, and we fully intend on letting teachers know which ones would be beneficial to specific grade levels.
I am very excited to have been able to work on the lesson plan collaboratively with the Literacy Lab teacher. Our Literacy Lab teacher doesn't have a technology background either, so I was able to show her the digital tools and teach her how to use those so that they could effectively teach our students how to use these in the project. I also have been given a set of 12 heart rate monitors for the PE class, so I'm excited to be able to implement those next year, pull data onto different devices, and use the data to drive my instruction on being "heart healthy." As you can tell, technology use is improving in my classroom. Is it improving in yours?
Looking forward, I am still not seeing myself as a "technology leader" in our county. I am seeing myself as a leader in our school. I have been helping other teachers, learning about new tools, and implementing new forms of technology into my lessons. To me, that is a huge growth from what I was at the beginning of this program. I am excited to see what I continue to learn throughout the next two semesters, and I hope that I am able to share more information with the teachers around me in order to get them as excited as I am about the new things in education. GREAT things are coming to those who teach!
